Herbert H. Tsang's research focus is in applying computational techniques and technologies to solve real world problems. He has an ongoing interest in bioinformatics, evolutionary computation, intelligent systems and optimization, scientific visualization, and technology for education.
Current research projects include: 1) RNA secondary structure design and prediction, 2) scientific visualization, 3) agent-based evolutionary algorithms for complex system modeling, 4) the development of technologies for mobile media-rich application, and 5) educational technology.
With my students and collaborators, Dr. Tsang’s research is performed under a highly collaborative team environment with members coming from a variety of backgrounds, such as engineers, computer scientists, molecular biologists, chemists, bioinformatians, musicians etc. They all work closely together in a very effective manner to not only solve scientific problems but also seek new understanding to the world around us.
